Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis (BPED) stacks

mbrane electrodialysis stack consists of main components such as spacers, ion exchange membranes, electrodes, and clamping devices, which are assembled alternately in sequence as shown in the figure below.

Principle Of Operation

The Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis stacks can be assembled using a combination of bipolar membranes, anion membranes, and cation membranes. Alternatively, it can also be assembled using bipolar membranes in combination with either cation membranes or anion membranes. 

In this process, cations migrate directionally under the influence of the electric field and combine with the hydroxide ions generated by the bipolar membrane to form alkali. Anions migrate directionally under the influence of the electric field and combine with the hydrogen ions generated by the bipolar membrane to form acid.

According to customer requirements, site conditions, and project needs, customized designs can be made for assembly methods, equipment forms, clamping methods, etc. 

We currently offer various types of Electrodialysis stacks, including screw-locking designs and hydraulic types.

The screw-locking design is suitable for small to medium-scale pilot applications with a smaller membrane area, while the hydraulic type is suitable for medium to large-scale applications with a larger membrane area and more compact space.

Applications:

Bipolar membrane electrodialysis technology is a type of electrodialysis technology, and its core depends on the functionalization of membrane performance. 

For high-salinity wastewater, bipolar membrane technology can convert the corresponding inorganic salts into acids and bases. For example:

★ NaCl+H2O→NaOH+HCl

★ Na2SO4+H2O→NaOH+H2SO4

★ LiCl+H2O→LiOH+HCl

★ Li2SO4+H2O→LiOH+H2SO4

★ NaNO3+H2O→NaOH+HNO3
