Leave a messageA bipolar membrane is a novel type of Ion exchange membrane, composed of an anion-selective layer, a cation-selective layer, and an intermediate interfacial layer. When a reverse voltage is applied across the two ends of the bipolar membrane, charged ions migrate from the transition zone of the two ion exchange layers to the bulk solution. Water molecules rapidly dissociate into H⁺ and OH⁻, which then migrate to the bulk solution. The consumed water molecules are replenished from the external solution to the intermediate interfacial layer through diffusion.

Instructions for Use
The bipolar membrane is typically used in conjunction with cation or anion exchange membranes. By assembling them in a specific order, the desired treatment function can be achieved. Unlike conventional cation and anion membranes, which only facilitate the migration of corresponding ions, bipolar membranes generate new ions. Therefore, bipolar membranes are often used to produce new substances.
Applications
It can be used for the preparation of acids and bases from inorganic salts, such as sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, sodium nitrate, lithium sulfate, etc.
It can be used for the preparation of organic acids, such as gluconic acid, malic acid, lactic acid, oxalic acid, etc.
It can be used for the preparation of organic bases, such as lysine, quaternary ammonium bases, etc.
